Mr. MacDonald studied at The University of Glasgow, graduating in 1998. He undertook his early training in the West of Scotland before moving to Cambridge as a registrar. He completed his training with a year in Australia, lecturing at The University of Adelaide and taking a post as Joint Replacement Fellow at the Royal Adelaide Hospital. Since 2011, he has been working as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at two NHS hospitals within Lanarkshire 

Mr. MacDonald is known for his expertise in hip and knee replacement surgery, including complex primary and revision cases. His dedication to advancing surgical methods has significantly improved patient outcomes. 

Mr. MacDonald is passionate about teaching and training, having previously won “Trainer of the Year,” voted for by the trainees themselves, and came third at the UK national level. He is also part of the teaching faculty for the AO Foundation, a worldwide organisation dedicated to innovation in the surgical treatment of fractures.
